How to use the Random Team Generator

  1. Enter or paste your player names, one per line.
  2. Choose how many teams you need in the Split into Teams box.
  3. Press Split Now.
  4. You get random, balanced groups straight away. Where the number of players does not divide evenly, team sizes differ by one.

The spinning wheel is also available as an optional slower method if you would rather reveal players one at a time in front of a group. Spin, assign that player to a team, then use Remove and Continue and spin again.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split into two equal teams?

Enter all player names, set the number of teams to 2 in the Split into Teams box, then press Split Now. The players are shuffled and split into two random groups instantly. If you have an odd number of players, one team will have one more player than the other. You can also use the wheel to assign players one at a time if you prefer.

Can I use this for more than two teams?

Yes. Choose the number of teams you need in the Split into Teams box, then press Split Now. The names are shuffled and distributed across the teams as evenly as possible. The wheel remains available if you prefer to reveal assignments one at a time.

What if I have an odd number of players?

Split Now distributes players as evenly as possible. If the total number of players cannot be divided evenly between the selected teams, team sizes will differ by no more than one.

How the wheel works

How does the wheel choose a winner?

The wheel randomly selects a result before the animation starts. It then calculates the exact final rotation needed for that result to land under the pointer. This means the displayed winner always matches where the wheel visually stops — every single time.

Is every option equally likely to win?

Yes. Every option on the wheel has an equal chance of being selected. The wheel uses your browser's built-in random number generator with no weighting or bias. The only way to change the odds is to manually add duplicate entries.

Can results be manipulated?

The selection happens locally in your own browser using its built-in random number generator, and no server is involved in choosing the result. The result you see is the result the page produced. Note that if you enter the same name more than once, it counts separately and therefore has a greater chance of being drawn.

Why does the wheel spin before showing the result?

The spin animation makes the result feel more exciting. But the winner is already decided before the wheel starts moving. The animation reveals what was already chosen — the visual result always matches the actual result.
