๐ซ No-Spend Challenge Tracker
Run a no-spend challenge and actually keep track of it. Choose a length, mark each day as you go, and the tracker keeps your streak, your completion rate and a total of the purchases you decided against. It stays saved in this browser, so a 30-day challenge survives closing the tab.
A personal tracker for days and amounts you record yourself. It is not financial advice, and essential spending is never something to skip.
Set up your challenge
Starting a challenge saves it in this browser so you can come back to it tomorrow. Marking a day as planned spend does not break anything โ rent, food, travel and bills are meant to be paid.
Mark each day
Your challenge is stored in this browser only, under the key gws-no-spend-v1. It holds the start date, each day's status and any amounts you typed in. It is never uploaded, never linked to you, and the delete button removes it completely.
What the tracker counts, and what it refuses to count
- Each day is one of three things: a no-spend day, a planned spend day, or not yet marked. The status is shown by an icon and a pressed state, not colour alone.
- Your current streak is the unbroken run of no-spend days ending on the most recent day that has actually happened โ it never counts days in the future.
- Best streak is the longest unbroken run anywhere in the challenge, whether or not it is still going.
- Completion is
days with a status รท total days ร 100, so it measures how much of the diary you have filled in. - The money total only adds up amounts you typed in yourself. Marking a day no-spend adds nothing, because the tool has no idea what you would otherwise have bought โ inventing a figure there would make the total flattering and useless.
- Everything is saved to
gws-no-spend-v1in this browser after each change. If storage is unavailable, the tool says so and keeps working for the current session.
Spin for today's optional no-spend idea
The tracker above is the tool. This wheel is a light prompt if you want one low-cost idea for the day โ it is entirely optional, and nothing on it is about going without something you actually need.

A worked example
You start a 7-day challenge. Days 1, 2 and 3 go well and you mark them no-spend. On day 4 you do the weekly food shop, so you mark it planned spend โ that is not a failure, it is a normal week.
On days 1 and 3 you talked yourself out of a ยฃ5 coffee run and a ยฃ10 impulse buy, and typed those in. Day 2 you did not record an amount, so it counts as ยฃ0.
The tracker shows 3 no-spend days, a best streak of 3, a current streak of 0 once day 4 is marked as spending, and a recorded total of ยฃ15 โ the ยฃ5 plus the ยฃ10, and nothing invented for day 2. That total is deliberately conservative, because a number you made up is not a saving.
Frequently asked questions
Does marking a day as no-spend add money to the total?
No, and that is deliberate. The tool has no way of knowing what you would otherwise have bought that day. The total only adds up amounts you typed in yourself, so it stays honest rather than flattering.
Does my challenge survive closing the browser?
Yes. It is saved in this browser under the key gws-no-spend-v1 after every change, so a 30-day challenge is still there tomorrow. It stays on the device you used โ it does not sync, and it is not uploaded anywhere.
What is the difference between clearing and deleting?
Clear every day resets all the day markers but keeps the challenge and its dates set up. Delete saved challenge removes the stored data from this browser entirely, leaving nothing behind.
Am I supposed to stop paying for essentials?
No. Rent, food, travel, medication and bills are not what a no-spend challenge is about, which is exactly why the planned-spend status exists โ so you can record those days honestly without feeling you have failed.
What happens if the saved data gets corrupted?
The tracker validates everything it reads back. If the stored data is malformed, truncated, oversized or from an older version, it is ignored and the tool starts fresh rather than half-restoring a broken challenge.
Are my amounts or dates sent anywhere?
No. Nothing you enter leaves this browser. Analytics on this page records only that a household tool was used โ never a date, an amount, a status or a total.
How the wheel works
How does the wheel pick a result?
The wheel selects a result at random before the animation starts, then calculates the exact rotation needed to land that result under the pointer. The displayed result always matches where the wheel visually stops.
Is every option equally likely?
Yes. Every option has an equal chance of being selected, using your browser's built-in random number generator with no weighting or bias.
Can I edit the options?
Yes. Add, remove, or edit any option using the text area on the right. Changes take effect on your next spin and stay only for your current browser session.
